Cinnamon and Nutmeg Doughnuts
A plain cake doughnut spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, fried until deep gold and rolled in sugar while still warm. Keep the dough soft — the less flour you work in, the lighter they fry.
Ingredients
- sugar — 200 g
- butter — 35 g
- eggs — 3 pcs
- milk — 240 ml
- baking powder — 4 tsp
- ground cinnamon — 0.25 tsp
- grated nutmeg — 0.25 tsp
- salt — 1.5 tsp
- all-purpose flour — 500 g
- oil for frying — 1 l
Instructions
- Cream the butter with half the sugar until light.
- Beat the eggs with the remaining sugar until thick, then combine the two mixtures.
- Sift the flour with the baking powder, spices and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients and the milk alternately, working in only enough flour to make a soft dough you can just roll.
- Chill for 30 minutes, then roll out 1 cm thick and cut rings.
- Fry at 185°C (365°F) until golden on both sides, drain on paper and roll in sugar while still warm.
