Arme Ritter
The German way with yesterday's bread: slices soaked in sweetened milk and egg, fried golden in butter and tossed in cinnamon sugar. Crisp outside and custardy inside, they were a thrifty supper for generations of children and make an easy weekend breakfast with apple sauce or fruit.

- bread — 8 slice
- milk — 250 ml
- eggs — 2 pcs
- sugar — 1 tbsp
- vanilla extract — 0.5 tsp
- salt — 1 pinch
- butter, for frying — 40 g
- sugar, to serve — 3 tbsp
- ground cinnamon — 1 tsp

Instructions
- Whisk the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt in a shallow dish.
- Mix the sugar for serving with the cinnamon on a plate.
